These are the first two gems cut in my new 'GemmoLantern' Design! The yellow GAGG weighs in at 57.5ct and the light golden samarium YAG weighs in at 34.2ct.
The first one is a "high glow" glow-in-the-dark GAGG garnet. This is our highest grade of GAGG, and it GLOWS IN THE DARK! That's right, I'm so excited about it I wrote it in all caps! They work very hard to make sure it does not glow in the dark since it lowers the temporal resolution of the system (you want to know where an x-ray is now, not where it was an hour ago!) but sometimes they make mistakes, and a small subset have a stronger glow. On top of all that it has a greener color than any of our other GAGGs.
The second stone is cut is samarium-doped YAG with a strong orange glow under UV light. Samarium YAG is used as a non-contact pressure gauge in diamond anvil experiments--the color of its fluorescence changes with pressure, so it can very accurately report pressure without any physical connection to the outside.
