These are fulgurites, the glass trail left behind when a lightning bolt strikes in the desert. These amazing branching formations are collected by nomads from the desert in Morocco and Libya, similar to the classic northwest African meteorites. They are incredibly cool, showing the classic branching forms you expect from lighting. We have a few different kinds--the Libyan ones generally show finer detail and have thinner walls, while the Moroccan ones tend to be rounder and thicker with less fine details.
These are just amazing little scientific artifacts!
I have sorted them into broad categories, but each piece is unique so there is a lot of variation within each one. Bolts range from thin to thick, long to short, flat to round.
